What We Do

  • We are creating a group of lesbian and gay Anglican Church members, lay and ordained, who are prepared to be open and visible within the Church, meeting together to develop ideas, aims and objectives and a strategy for action.

  • Provide education, training and assistance in the development of a mature theology of human sexuality within the Church of England, with the positive input of lesbian and gay Christians.

  • Encourage the growth of support and understanding by the Bishops of the Anglican Communion in the continuing debate within the church around issues of human sexuality and in particular, lesbian, bi and gay sexualities.

  • Encourage the development of relationships and networks between the existing lesbian, gay and bisexual Christian organisations involved in exploring and responding to the human sexuality debate to foster awareness of the activities of each, the sharing of resources, and the development of a mutual purpose.

  • Encourage the formation of Diocesan Networks in which lesbian, gay and bisexual church members and others who are sympathetic may find understanding, acceptance, encouragement and support, respecting at all times the right to privacy and the integrity of each person.

Changing Attitude Diocesan groups meet regularly in the dioceses of Birmingham, Bristol, Canterbury, Chelmsford, Chester, Liverpool, London, Oxford, St Albans and Southwark. These meetings provide an opportunity to offer encouragement and support and float ideas. We hope to form new groups in at least 15 other dioceses within the next three years. We have a network of contacts in 24 dioceses and members in 40 dioceses.

  • Changing Attitude produces a bi-monthly newsletter providing news of developments and information about forthcoming events. We publish reports and articles of relevance to the unfolding debate within the church. The Newsletter is sent free to members and to every Bishop in England, Scotland, Ireland, Wales and Eire, every Diocesan Director of Ordinands, Social Responsibility Officer and Ministerial Training Course and Theological College Principal in England.

Contributions for the newsletter and reactions to articles are welcome. Please send contributions to Changing Attitude at 12 Lavender Gardens, London SW11 1DL or by e-mail.
