Report of recent group meetings |
|
July 2005 |
At each meeting there have been a few people with us for the first time.
Nicola Slee and Rosie Miles led a fascinating and challenging evening on
Queer Theory and Queer Theology. What is all this hankering after
reclaiming orthodoxy – let’s be different and do it differently! Then we
had a meeting to consider what makes a gay-friendly congregation – and
intend to put the results to the Area Deans. And finally we said goodbye
to retiring Bishop John Austin, offering final reflections on Windsor
and all that.In Birmingham Diocese Changing Attitude is still the
only body to be offering a regular public forum for discussion of issues
relating to sexuality and the Church. However, we do at last have
promise of some time in diocesan synod. Meanwhile the oppression
continues, our particular concern being the refusal to licence lay
readers who are in same-sex partnerships.
