Bishops support partnership bill by defeating Lord's "wrecking" amendment

Although there wasn't a vote (division) in the
Lords for the final acceptance of the Civil Partnership legislation, there was
for the (so called) 'wrecking' amendment which may have made it completely
unworkable. The bishops who voted for the amendment to include siblings, family members
and long-term carers were the Bishops of: Chester, the Rt Revd Peter Forster The bishops who voted against the 'wrecking' amendment and supported the bill
giving rights to lesbian and gay partners were the Bishops of: Chelmsford, the Rt Revd John Gladwin
