“CHANGING ATTITUDE WELCOMES LORD‘S APPROVAL OF THE CIVIL PARTNERSHIP BILL” PRESS RELEASE Changing Attitude welcomes the passage of the Civil Partnership Bill by the
House of Lords. When the Bill gains royal assent later this year, same-sex
couples across England, Wales and Northern Ireland will be allowed to register
their relationship and be legally recognized for the first time. The Revd Colin Coward, Director of Changing Attitude, said, “This is another
major step towards gaining full equality for lesbian and gay people in society.
Lesbian and gay Christians, including lesbian and gay priests, will be able to
legally register the partnerships and gain legal protection. This is a moment of
great excitement and a time for celebration. The Church of England is becoming increasingly isolated in society The Church
has gained exemption from employment legislation enabling it to discriminate
against lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender people. The new Bill challenges
the Church to be true to Jesus Christ who welcomes all to his table as holy
people, irrespective of their sexual identity.” Changing Attitude is a national organisation of Bishops, Priests and Lay
People in the Church of England calling for the full participation of lesbian
and gay people in the Anglican Church. END For further information please contact: Office: 12 Lavender Gardens, London, SW11 1DL Brenda Harrison, Administrator
